Risø’s Director to take CO2-free train to COP15 in Copenhagen

On Saturday evening, Risø’s Director Henrik Bindslev takes a train from Roskilde station to Copenhagen. It is a very special CO2-free train named ”Climate Express”. Henrik Bindslev will get on the train at 22:30.

The train leaves from Brussels Saturday 5 December at 9:10 and stops in Roskilde Saturday evening on its way to COP15 in Copenhagen. It will be met at Copenhagen Central Station by DSB CEO, Søren Eriksen at 23:00. There will also be a greeting from Connie Hedegaard. On the train there will be delegates, NGOs, intergovernmental organisations and the media. UNEP Executive Director Achim Steiner will be among the passengers.

There will be a wide range of activities on board the train passing through Cologne and Hamburg. Presentations, exhibitions, statements, interviews and a press conference with the international press will be part of the event.

The journey is intended to be completely CO2 free, as the electricity supply for the train comes solely from renewable energy sources. If the same group of people flew to Copenhagen instead of taking the train, they would emit 115 kg of CO2 per person.

Deutche Bahn has calculated the amount of electricity needed to bring the travelers to Copenhagen for each sold ticket. The total estimated consumption of electricity is purchased from renewable energy sources, and put into Deutsche Bahn's grid.
