Risø International Energy Conference 2009: Energy solutions that can reduce the world’s CO2 emissions

Risø’s fourth international energy conference takes place on 14 – 16 September. The conference aims at identifying energy solutions on local, regional and global level which can lead to a peak in CO2 emissions in 2015 - 2020 and a 50% reduction before 2050.

The programme for the conference contains more than 50 presentations on the energy challenges that the world is facing today.

There will be keynote presentations from several prominent speakers from the energy sector, including

  •  Nebojsa Nakicenovic, Global Energy Assessment (GEA), the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), Austria
  • Ogunlade Davidson, Energy Minister of Sierra Leone, former vice-chairman of Working Group III under the 4th Assessment Report of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (2007).
  • Brian Castelli, Executive Vice President of the Alliance to Save Energy, USA

Moreover, Risø Energy Report 8 - The intelligent energy system infrastructure for the future – will be presented at the conference.

The conference is for Danish and international experts from research and industry as well as for authorities within in the energy sector. The topics will range from the energy technologies we already know to the new technologies necessary for a 50 % reduction of CO2 emissions before 2050. The researchers will also discuss how we can prepare the energy systems for far more renewable energy than at present.
