Together with MEK at DTU, the Aeroelastic Design Unit is running the WEB-database “Database on Wind Characteristics”. The purpose of the database is to provide wind energy planners, designers and researchers, as well as the international wind engineering community in general, with a source of full-scale wind field data (time-series and resource data). |
|
A wide variety of wind climates and terrain types are represented together with significant amounts of wind field time-series, measured in wakes of wind turbines. The time-series are stored in a common file format, with time resolution ranging between 1 and 40 Hz, whereas the wind resource data are stored as 10-minute statistics.
The quality of the wind data is classified according to a number of criteria such as presence of spikes, noise, trends, etc., and emphasis has been given to ensure a high level of documentation of the measurement setups. To ease the use of the database, a search and data selection system has been developed that fully utilizes the interactive nature of the WWW. Tools for visualizing and analyzing time series are included on the web-server.
Currently the database contains more than 191.000 hours of wind field time series, 890.000 hours of wind resource statistics and 19.000 hours of wind farm measurements from 100 different sites in Europe, Greenland, Turkey, Egypt, Mexico, Costa Rica, USA and Japan. However, the coverage is continuously being extended, with time series - presently primarily from high-wind sites and from offshore locations (a few of these including wave measurements in addition to the wind field measurements). |
