FTIR quantitative measurements

Two Bomem Fourier Transform InfraRed (FTIR) spectrometers are used for qualitative and quantitative analyses: a Bomem MB100 for mid-infrared and an MB155 for both mid- and near-infrared studies.

The following FTIR spectrometer accessories for quantitative analysis are available in our laboratory:

  • A 6.4 m white cell for gas analysis:
The long-path gas cell combined with the full spectral capabilities of the FTIR spectrometers allows measurement of a large number of gaseous species ranging from ppm to % vol. in the mid-infrared spectral region.
  • A Harrick diffuse reflectance accessory for powder analysis:
Small powdery samples can be examined in the mid-infrared spectral region. Qualitative and quantitative analyses of both amorphous and crystalline materials can be carried out.
  • A Specac variable path-length cell for liquid analysis:
Transmission measurements of liquid samples can be undertaken with this cell both in the mid- and near-infrared spectral region. The optical path length of the cell can be varied from 10 mm to several millimeters making this accessory useful in the whole infrared spectral range.
  • A VeeMax variable specular reflection accessory:
Specular reflectance measurements of surfaces and coatings of various materials can be carried out. The angle of the accessory can be varied within 30-80 degrees.
