At Risø DTU’s test station for large turbines at Høvsøre, mega-watt wind turbines are being tested.
At Høvsøre it is always windy. Even when almost all flags in this country are hanging slack, the turbine wings are turning around out here at the edge of the North Sea.
As the wind can be very strong, it is important to know the impact of the wind on the wind turbines in order to build the turbines strong enough. On Risø’s website you can follow how windy it gets at different heights at Høvsøre. You can also see the measurements of wind in other places of the world – places where Risø DTU makes measurements of the wind.
A good place to find wind measurements on the Internet is on the website "Vinddatabasen", where Kurt Hansen DTU has gathered wind measurements from all over the world.
It often costs up to a million kroner or more to make a new wind measurement of one area. So it is worth while to search for and translate the old data collections.
