Objectives To develop a number of meteorological and power output databases for both initialisation and evaluation of wake models.

Description of work Offshore measurement data from two offshore wind energy sites were compiled. The sites selected are Vindeby offshore wind farm, which is in a relatively sheltered location with shallow water, and Bockstigen in the deeper waters of the Baltic. Further offshore wind farm sites (e.g. Tunoe Knob) were investigated but rejected due to lack of sufficient measurements. Data from the proposed wind farm site at Horns Rev are also available. Since there are currently no wind turbines installed at Horns Rev, the data will be used in the evaluation stage of the project.
The data set produced comprises case studies of wind and turbulence profiles conditionally sampled by wind speed, fetch and stability conditions where wake data are also available. At Vindeby over 400,000 one minute observations are available. For Bockstigen, case studies were defined.
Description of the sites The selected sites are Vindeby (sheltered location, shallow water), Bockstigen (Baltic, deeper water) and Horns Rev (deeper water, near-neutral conditions on average). The first two sites are the locations of offshore wind farms with associated meteorological monitoring while at Horns Rev meteorological monitoring site (19 km offshore) is in progress and an offshore wind farm is under development |
