The contribution to graduate training, research training and postdoctoral activities
The status of research training at Risø DTU in the field of remote sensing for wind energy purposes is:

  • Three PhD students. A fourth is soon to come 
  • Two Post Doctorial Fellows working with laser based remote sensing. 
  • Several researchers/PhD students visiting for periods up to six months from Europe and the US. Institution involved in this exchange include University of Colorado, University of Auckland, Stuttgart University, Renewable national Energy Centre of Spain (CENER), Greek Centre for Renewable Energy Sources (CRES), National Center for Atmospheric Research, USA (NCAR) 
  • Our students and researchers will also benefit from the 14th International Symposium for the Advancement of Boundary Layer Remote Sensing, organized by us (http://www.isars2008.dk). 
  • Our PhD school “Remote sensing for Wind Energy” taking place at Risø in June 2008 is already fully booked with 25 participants, including both PhD students and engineers from the wind turbine industry. 
  • Remote sensing has been taught as a part of the Wind Resources and Loads course at DTU’s Wind Energy Master for three years.
Our intention for the future is to increase greatly the number of both permanent and exchange PhD students. This will occur within the framework of the European Academy of Wind Energy (EAWE, http://www.eawe.eu) and exchange agreements with several foreign universities, including Colorado and Auckland. Students will be engaged in activities directly related to the development of the WindScanner.dk and in projects utilizing the facility. We also plan to organize additional PhD summer schools within wind remote sensing.
