Mg Engine

Light Weight Engine Construction through Extended and Sustainable Use of Mg-Alloys.

To reduce pollution from cars by weight reduction using lightweight magnesium as construction material for the car engine. The work will involve development of minimum two modified Mg-alloys with improved high-temperature properties. An extended test programme will provide high-temperature mechanical properties of selected Mg-alloys and development of generic design criteria for construction of Mg-engines. There will be manufactured Mg-engine block prototypes by HPDC. And an improved bolt fastening systems for bolted assemblies in Mg-engines will be developed.
