MADONA Movie

MADMOV - a vizualization tool
To aid the use and viewing of the madona data sets, a visualization software code was developed (MADMOV - MADONA Movie) . It allows browsing through the meteorological and diffusion data as well as a number of simple model validations based upon these data. These models include diffusion model sigma parameters, turbulence and wind profile parameterizations. The data is presented on a simplified background scene of Porton Down area map - Pasquill's research site.

MADMOV facilities
Figure 1 shows the standard layout of the screen. The separate additional graphs on the right hand side of the screen output show temperature data, vertical wind profiles, and turbulence data from the sonic anemometers, as well as a simple preliminary evaluation of the concentration data. These additional graphs may be rearranged and resized by the user, or removed totally from the display.

Data in the data base is provided in time steps of 5 minute intervals. The steps may be shown continuously like a movie or as single frames running time forward or backward. The data can also be presented as a time series of different parameters as . Time intervals and the parameters to be presented can be chosen interactively by the user.

Installation of MADMOV
The madmov zip file (15 Mb) is downloaded from the Risoe ftp server. The files should be extracted using the recurse into directories option so all the zipped data will appear in the correct directories. The installation is then performed by running the install.bat in the madmov directory.   Questions or problems with the installation should be forwarded to Harald Weber at the GMGO.
