The project aims at developing organic farming (OF) in such a way that it will be a leading actor within climate mitigation without compromising any environmental or animal welfare principles and values.
The project will be conducted in close collaboration with 10 farmers including most recent scientific findings in order to put suggestions for novel changes into practice. Benchmarking tools together with actual measurements on the individual farms will be used.Effective communication approaches are critical to support organic farmers to develop their farm towards more climate friendly strategies. Only when farmers can understand the negative effects of climate change and its impacts can they prepare for and adapt to them. Participants: The project is conducted together with Ecoadvise (Økologisk Rådgivning hos Gefion, Fulbyvej 15, 4180 Sorø, Denmark; www.ecoadvice.dk) in close collaboration with the National Association for Organic Farming and their activities creating a climate strategy for Organic Farming (www.okologi.dk/klima)Role: Risø DTU contributes with competences about climate change, GHG emissions and novel cropping systems for the future. Resources: “Fonden for økologisk landbrug” is funding the project. Duration: The project runs from 1 January - 31 December 2010Employees involved: Per Ambus (N20 Emissions) and Henrik Hauggaard-Nielsen (alternative cropping strategies)
