Wind Day 2010 to deal with offshore wind turbines

Wind Day
The Wind Day, organised by the Danish Research Consortium for Wind Energy, is an annual event, where the consortium is presenting some of the latest research results from Danish research institutions within wind energy. The participants will gain an updated insight into the expertise of Danish research institutions, into wind energy activities and into recent results from this research area. This year the theme is offshore wind energy.

The target audience
The annual wind day is both aimed at the consortium’s contacts from its daily work and at others interested in wind energy. After an opening lecture with a brief presentation of new initiatives of the Danish Research Consortium for Wind Energy and after a lecture on the new initiative ‘Lindø Offshore Renewable Centre’ the rest of the day will be spent listening to presentations by speakers from the consortium's research activities on offshore wind energy.

Reception
The day will end with a presentation and a lecture by the newly appointed Professors Erik Lundtang Petersen and Niels Sørensen, followed by a reception.

The offshore market is expected to grow strongly
The offshore wind turbine market is expected to grow by 71 % in 2010 compared with 2009. To achieve the EU goals for 2020 of 20 % renewable energy and the goals of EWEA (European Wind Energy Association) of 40GW offshore, an average annual growth of 28 % will be required up until 2020. By comparison, the market for wind turbines on land increased by an average of 32 % per year from 1992 to 2004.
