’Seal the Deal’ is a UN campaign encouraging citizens to sign a call for world governments to reach a fair, balanced and effective climate agreement in Copenhagen. From 21 to 25 September the UN focuses especially on this campaign and invites the world to participate in Global Climate Week.

As part of UN’s Global Climate Week, the UNEP Risø Centre on Energy, Climate and Sustainable Development has launched a collaboration with DSB in a number of cities to make local citizens support ‘Seal the Deal’. In order to make the campaign reach all of Denmark, DSB has given their permission to use certain stations. UNEP Risø Centre starts today, 22 September, at 15.00 - 17.30 at Roskilde station and in Copenhagen (the central station, Østerport and Nytorv). They continue on 24 October – on the UN day - at the stations of Aalborg, Aarhus and Odense, at 15:00 – 17.30.

As we all know the world’s governements will meet on 7 December for two weeks in Copenhagen to reach a binding agreement on climate. In this context, the United Nations has launched the Seal the Deal campaign.

”It is a natural thing for Risø DTU to be involved in ’Seal the Deal’ because we are actively working to create technologies for a future sustainable energy supply that can help reduce the world’s CO2 emissions,” says Risø’s Director Henrik Bindslev, who stamped and signed ‘Seal the Deal’ at Risø international energy conference held 14 - 16 September 2009. Climate change affects us all. Nine out of ten disasters are now related to climate change. Rising temperatures, more floods, droughts and storms affect the lives of millions of people.

The campaign was launched at Risø DTU at Risø Internationale Energy conference 2009. Risø’s Director Henrik Bindslev was the first to sign the call, followed by Niels Axel Nielsen, Director of DTU Public Sector Consultancy and Hans Larsen, Head of Division of Risø’s Systems Analysis Division, which also houses the UNEP Risø Centre on Energy, Climate and Sustainable Development and DTU Climate Centre. Afterwards the conference participants signed the call. And finally the staff at Risø got the opportunity to participate in Seal the Deal when they went for lunch in Risø’s canteen.
