A 50th anniversary is a fine opportunity to take stock of a development which no one could have predicted in 1958 when Risø National Laboratory was formed headed by the Danish Atomic Energy Commission. Then and now the major challenge is to provide new energy technologies and strengthen business development in Denmark. But the track is now radically different than 50 years ago. Today Risø DTU, National Laboratory for Sustainable Energy, plays an important part in conducting research into sustainable energy technologies, demanded globally and Risø is cooperating with companies, authorities and international research centres in order to tackle this task. Despite the subtitle Risø DTU continues to be Denmark’s competence centre within nuclear technologies applied today to fight cancer in close interaction with hospitals and international companies.
Through the years Risø’s name has become a brand, which is recognised and respected all over the world because of quality. A new challenge for Risø in the coming years is to open the doors for an increasing number of young people who want to be educated within sustainable energy. They will strengthen Risø’s dynamic and active environment and increase Risø’s impact on society.
