Just as Bolund’s neighbours, Risø wants to preserve the beautiful landscape around Roskilde Inlet.
Bolund is a small treasure of nature with a wonderful view. The place is just right for Sunday trips and all types of excursions. Bolund is indeed worth preserving; everybody who lives and comes in this area agrees on this.
The exceptional steep profile of Bolund is also what makes it especially fitted for measurements to be used by scientists when determining the wind conditions in mountainous terrain.
Risø DTU has applied for permission to set up measuring masts on the hill in three winter months out of the plant and breeding season. The authorities have accepted this but with room for objections in the hearing period. Also the land owners have consented to the project.
The neighbours worry if the project will damage the earth and the birds in the area. They haven’t got answers to all their questions and think there isn’t enough time for objections. Therefore Risø has invited the neighbours to an information and dialogue meeting on 25 October.
”At the meeting we will explain the project in depth: The lattice towers are not that heavy, they can be carried in from the water side on plates of wood by hand and with tackles. Machines are therefore not necessary” says the head of the project, senior scientist Jeppe Johansen.
”We have 25 years of experience in setting up measuring masts in all kinds of terrain and in all kinds of weather so we guarantee that they will remain standing until we take them down after three months – and that the landscape will remain unharmed.”
The measurements are important as they can facilitate advising as to where to site wind turbines more precisely. Improved measurements lead to improved models. Better models also lead to fewer wrong sitings of this sustainable energy source and more accurate placing of the turbines leads to less destruction of landscapes.
