Current projectsMeta-analyses and their application in agriculture: a case study on variety mixtures of cereals
Ph.d. project evaluating the advantages of mixed cultivation of several varieties of a single crop for sustainable agricultural production using meta-analyses techniques.
High Quality Seed – Maintaining Integrity in Organic Farming (SEED – DARCOF III)
The project hypothesis is that elucidating the potential of recently developed knowledge-based technologies on the exploitation of genetic diversity, the production in crop mixtures, the improvement of seed quality by utilising new integrated methods in seed technology will improve the supply of high quality organic seed for organic farming to remain independent and viable.
Completed projectsAnalysis of gene flow from crop to wild forms in lettuce and chicory and its population-ecological consequences in the context of GM-crop biosafety
The anticipated risk of escape of transgenes from genetically modified crops to wild allies has revealed a serious lack in knowledge about gene flow from cultivated to wild forms of crop plants and its possible consequences for the environment, such as increased weediness. Therefore, this project aims at developing molecular tools dedicated to assessing gene flow in two model crops, one basically outcrossing, chicory, and one basically selfing, lettuce. Consequences of gene flow for fitness will be studied by demographic monitoring of natural and experimental hybrid populations.
